Day Six-Donuts,Buffalo Wings and Fudge!

Mainly today we drove and we ate! On our way out of Shipshewana we stopped at a donut store that had homemade donuts by the Amish women in town. Then, we drove... and drove and drove. Sometimes at 45 miles an hour on one-lane behind eighteen wheelers..

So, Scott and I played the license plate game...

The kids got tired of their seats, watched movies....

...and read books.

We stopped in Cleveland for lunch and drove around downtown for a bit. It's very industrial, lots of factories...

Then we drove on and on and on...to Erie, Pennsylvania. We stopped here for ice cream at a cute little diner close to the beach.

After Erie we drove for a while longer till we came to Buffalo, New York. And of course, wouldn't you know it was about dinner time! So, we ate at the Anchor Bar...the home of the Buffalo Wing!! When you walk in the smell of vinegar nearly knocks you off your feet! I, of course had the buffalo wings... Thomas had wings....

...even Grace and Mandy had wings...

So, naturally, Scott had...pasta shells and meat sauce??!!!

Finally we arrive at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing...

We had to give the Canadian border patrol lady all of our passports and the kids had to hold up their hand when she called their name. The camera took a picture of our license plate at which time she noticed that we were from Texas. She said," Did you DRIVE all the way from Texas???" Everywhere we go people think we're nuts!

Our hotel is right as you cross over so we didn't have any trouble finding it at all. Which is a good thing since GPS lady doesn't do Canada...a fact we didn't know until today. The hotel has been here forever, but was completely gutted and renovated only 3 months ago. Which means it has the best view of the American falls of anyplace in Niagara. They upgraded our room and gave us one on the falls side. Just the view from our window will take your breath away.

After we settled in we went and walked around a bit. There are a ton of little shops, tourist attractions and ice cream places all along the streets here. Kind of has a board walk feel to it. We came across this cool fudge shop and since we hadn't eaten quite enough today we stopped in an bought a little! They make it right there in the shop and I took a picture to show you just how much fudge was in there....all those 2 1/2-3 foot bars at the back are all different flavors of fudge!

Scott wanted me to include this picture of his soda bottle for his mom. Apparently when he was a kid there was a soda shop in Austin called "The Pop Shop" and it carried bottles of this brand of soda. He was very excited about rediscovering it here in Canada.

The kids got up VERY early this morning, so they are already asleep. Once again we don't have a Top 5. But, I will tell you that Thomas is very, very excited about being in a "foreign" country!

Tomorrow we have our Maid of the Mist boat tour and the Journey into the Falls!
