After breakfast we took the subway to Chinatown...another of my favorites! The kids like riding the trains, although Thomas did remark on how dirty the station was and tried to look down the tracks for rats. I love how the people here are so nice about helping you figure out the subway. Anytime we've ever asked for subway directions people have been so friendly and eager to help you find your way around the city.
As many of you know shopping for handbags in Chinatown is one of my favorite things to do. It is a skill!
Grace and I following a "sales person" to the "good stuff!"
One entire row of this block had been shut down in a sting for "copyright and trademark infringement" and just across the street there was another section that the police were clearing out the merchandise and had police tape around...
We shopped for a little bit and then walked to Little Italy for a snack at Ferrara's. I had peach gelatto...
We make a stop at Ferrara's Pasticceria every time we come to New York. We came back again later for cannoli's and other munchies for the hotel!
Then...a little more shopping in Chinatown. Ok...Scott took these pictures. This is me & Grace shopping in a little storefront booth...
Where are we? Behind the false door where all those clothes are... :)
The kids had fun trying on all the crazy hats and sunglasses...
Thomas trying on a pair of shades and showing off the watch he bought...
Checking out the toy cars in Little Italy....

We ate lunch in Little Italy and then headed back to the hotel for a rest. We didn't rest much though, we watched a movie, checked out all our purchases and danced on the hotel beds!
...and potato latkes...
These are supposed to be eaten with applesauce or sour cream. Shikse(sp?) that I am, I eat mine with ketchup, much to the dismay of Scott and his parents! In the South, if it's a potato you either eat it with ketchup or smother it with gravy!
After dinner we walked back to the hotel, tinkering around in the souvenir shops. We love NYC so much we've decided to stay another day. Mainly because the kids have begged us to take them to see "Hairspray" on Broadway! The loved the movie and honestly I had forgotten it was on Broadway or I would've done that instead of "Grease." Our schedule here toward the end of our trip was a little more flexible than the first part.

Later, we went to Times Square to the BIG Toys R Us. We had a mini shopping spree and then headed to Junior's for dinner. Here we got our fix of Jewish deli food...
Matzoh Ball Soup...
I promised Grace I'd post this on our blog tonight. She took these pictures of herself blowing a kiss in parts and then scrolls really fast through them on her digital camera and it looks like a film clip. She came up with the idea on her own and showed it to us when she was done. (Thank you George Eastman and the hands-on room at the Photography Museum in Rochester! Another reason to take these trips!!) Scroll quickly for a kiss from Grace...
Blessings,
Leslie

My mouth is watering over the goodies you guys have been eating, but ketchup with latkes is TOO much. Yuck! Hairspray should be lots of fun. Hope we get to see you soon.

Grandma
