Day Nine-Lake Placid to Montreal

We had a great night at our hotel in Lake Placid. We even slept in a bit this morning and when the kids woke up Scott took them swimming while I packed up everything. We checked out and headed into town for lunch, shopping and sightseeing. Scott and the kids found a great little shop that had a rubber band gun range in it!

Lake Placid is a beautiful town. Shop lined streets with a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains behind them. Very, very peaceful. You can ski there in the winter and we talked about a possible return ski trip!

On the way out of town, Mandy decided she didn't need to wear her seat belt, which resulted in a fight, a fit and then the ultimate, dreaded "Don't make me pull this car over" moment!!!

Just a little ways out of town, (after the fit!), we stopped at this beautiful creek and let the kids get out and climb around on the rocks for awhile...
The creek/stream ( I never know the difference!) was so pretty and peaceful. There were even two gentlemen fly fishing...it was like something out of a movie..
Then, not much further, we just had to stop at the homemade chocolate store!
After that, unfortunately, we had to stop for gas because Scott didn't want to have to fill up in Canada...

Mandy serenaded us the rest of the way to Canada!

It was about an hour and a half to the border and another 30 minutes to Montreal. Scott also wants me to mention that we passed the 2000 mile mark today!

We are staying at an Embassy Suites in the Vieux Montreal (old quarter). It's a huge suite. Scott thinks they used to be apartments, but it's all new and has a huge jacuzzi tub that scared Grace to death tonight during her bath when she accidentally pushed the button!

Scott asked the concierge where to go for dinner with 3 kids and she recommended a local Mexican place...yes Mexican food in Canada. Just sounds strange doesn't it? It was really pretty good, except for the extremely loud mariachi band that can be seen in the background of this picture of Scott and Mandy...

Once our Mexican fiesta was over we walked around the Vieux Montreal. Scott said it felt just like Paris. The streets are narrow, narrow sidewalks, shops and bistros line the streets. It's a little like the French Quarter in New Orleans, but exceptionally clean and doesn't smell like urine.....or have anything remotely unsavory. The only thing we saw that offended us was this t-shirt in a souvenir store...The above building sits at the top of a hill that looks down over an open plaza area that is full of artisans and musicians. I don't know what the building is, but it was too beautiful not to take a picture!

A rare moment of brother/sister sweetness...

Montreal is very pretty, very clean and very European. Everyone speaks French. They also speak English, but with a heavy accent. At one point Scott was on the phone trying to get directions to the hotel and by the end of the conversation HE was speaking with a French accent! Everything is printed in French and sometimes ...if your lucky... English too.

If the weather is good tomorrow we are going to La Ronde...a French Six Flags and to the Biodome, an indoor zoo!

Again, thank you to all of you who are following us! The kids love the comments!

Blessings,
Leslie

Mandy: I am so glad you decided in the end to wear your seat belt. Grace & Thomas: I loved the picture of "sibling sweetness" that your mom snapped. Scott and Leslie: while some may call you completely insane, I truly believe that these summer adventure traditions you've begun are something your children will always remember with fondness. I love the top-five list at the end of the day! I love that you're having the kids scrapbook their souvenirs. In short, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. I absolutely cannot wait to read your blog every evening! Thanks for sharing!
