Cape Cod and Mystic, Conneticut

We left Boston this morning and went to Cape Cod. In Hyannis we took a whale watching cruise! It was 3 1/2 hours long, but the boat was very nice and the weather was perfect. We all really enjoyed it.

The first hour or so is spent getting far enough out in the Atlantic that you can see the whales. The first few minutes we spent watching the coastline of Cape Cod. Gorgeous can't even begin to describe it..The picture above is a little portion of the Cape called Sandy Point that has no electricity and is accessible only by boat or ATV. How fun would that be???!!

After the first 20 minutes or so we were out to sea and so the kids got a little restless. Thankfully we had thought to bring electronics!!When they stopped the boat, they turned the engines off and had everyone be quiet. You could hear the whales before you could see them! It was so cool! We saw 3 different pairs of mothers and babies. Once they were sleeping. They call it logging because they kind of float there in the water like big logs. The momma whales use the boats like babysitters. The babies are curious about the boats and the momma's use that opportunity to go deeper to feed. Kinda like Baby Einstein for whales! BTW, the babies are 10 feet long and 2000 lbs. at birth...Yow!

Despite their massive size they were actually very graceful. Once of the momma whales actually poked her head up out of water to get a better look at all of us...a people watching cruise.

We drove from there to Newport, Rhode Island. Newport looks like a great place, but it was unbelievably crowded. There was no where to park and all the restaurants were really packed. It was just a little to hoppin' for us, so we headed on to Mystic, Connecticut, which is definitely more our speed! I love these sleepy little beach towns!
We were all starving when we got here, so before heading to the hotel we stopped to eat at Mystic Pizza. Some of you, for whom the 80's is a dear memory, will recall the Julia Roberts movie "Mystic Pizza." This was the place! They filmed it right here in town. Scott just had to eat here given the movie buff that he is.
There was discussion over dinner about whether or not I could put this picture and the fact that it was Scott who wanted to come here because of an 80's chick flick. He was afraid his buddies would read the blog and revoke his "man card!"
Tomorrow, we are doing laundry at the laundromat across the street ( it's that or start buying new clothes), and then heading to NYC!!
Blessings,
Leslie

Wow, you guys have sure been busy since I last checked in. We love Boston. There are so many things to see and do. I am jealous that you got to go to Fenway, and that you saw the Celtics in person. How neat! The food is awesome. Sorry you couldn't spend time in Newport. Leslie, the mansions are spectacular.

Buddy & Daisy say Hi (Robyn is in Houston & Detroit on business).

Hugs to everyone,

Love,
Grandma

Scott's "Man Card" is indeed on probation due to the Mystic Pizza issue. To reinstate, we need to see pics from 1) a gun store 2) something involving the NFL or 3) any brewery or distillery.
