Day 16: Seattle

Scott's plan for today was to take a sea plane tour of Seattle.  Sadly, when he called they were booked, however, they put us down for 2:15 tomorrow.  So, we went to Plan B and decided to go back to the Pike Place Market.  It was late evening when we went yesterday, and all the artisan stalls, produce and fish market were already closed.

On our way to the market we decided to cross off one more Foodie stop with a donut from Top Pot...
They were yummy!  My favorite was the chocolate sandcastle...chocolate cake donut rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
Mandy had a homemade powdered sugar donut...

We spent the day at the market.  Tons and tons of stalls and tons and tons of people!
The kids enjoyed looking at all the different art, and homemade items.

My favorite was all the fresh flowers...

I really, really wish we could buy fresh flowers like this at home.  These huge bouquets were $15!
And everyone one of them was hand arranged by these ladies behind the counter stalls...
The fish market was pretty cool too, even if it was kinda stinky....
Fresh organic produce everywhere...
Snickerdoodles the size of your head...
All kinds of hand crafted jewelry, blown glass, honey....and, any kind of product you could imagine made from hemp, organic beeswax and essential oils sold to you by some young woman with dreadlocks and unshaven armpits.  A real cultural experience.

Think the Shores HOA would have a problem if I bought this jumbo sized, rainbow tie dyed flag to fly from my front porch??
All in all, a very "earthy" experience.  Although I fail to see how organic vegetables are gonna help you when you are puffing away on a cigarette.  Saw lots of that today.

For lunch we went to Foodie stop #5 on our road trip (These Diner, Drive-ins and Dives are gonna make me 100 pounds heavier by the time we get back to Texas!).  Pike Place Chowder.  Seriously the best clam chowder I've ever eaten.  Mandy had their chicken corn chowder and loved it!  We all scraped our bowls clean!  The crab roll was pretty awesome too.

Then, just in case we hadn't consumed enough calories for the day, we stopped at Yellow Leaf Cupcakes on the way back to the hotel.  Also, featured on the Food Network.  They are baked fresh each day and when they sell out, they close for the day.

Left to right: Boston Creme, Red Velvet, Lavender Vanilla
White Chocolate Pretzel, Belgian Chocolate, AND their signature cupcake Pancakes & Bacon!!

We just grabbed forks when we got back to the room and tried them all.  Grace and I were the only two who liked the pancakes and bacon one.  It tasted exactly like pancakes, bacon and syrup.  Crazy.  The others agreed, but thought that it was wrong to be in cupcake form!  My favorite and Mandy's was the lavender vanilla.

Since we pretty much gorged ourselves all day, we skipped dinner and went back to the hotel.  The kids wanted to swim and hang out, so that's what we did!

Tomorrow it appears we are taking a sea plane.  Ugh.  I hate to fly on a big jet, never mind some little tin can on skis!  Hope I packed some Xanax for tomorrow.

Blessings,
Leslie
