Day Six: Virginia Beach to Cape May, NJ

Scott took Thomas and Grace down to the beach this morning while I packed and as soon as we had the kids bathed and dressed we headed out. We had about a 4 hour drive to Cape May today. This is the the old fashioned sleepy quaint little beach town. Remember "Beaches" or "Dirty Dancing" where all the big city people come to the cape for the summer? That's exactly what Cape May is. Our hotel is Congress Hall, it's been here since the 1800's. It's classic! This is the quietest beach town I've ever been to. They have signs around the hotel that say, "Shhh...it's quiet time at Congress Hall, please be courteous of our sleeping guests." And these were out at 3:00 this afternoon! The elevators are called "cabs" and literally have the "dial" to show you what floor its on. It's a beautiful hotel. And now, on to the Top 5!

Thomas and Grace's Top 5 for June 6, 2006:

1. "We drove underwater!" We had to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel today. It's the longest combination bridge and tunnel system in the world ( or so said the lady at the tollbooth). If you look at the picture at the top of Scott and Mandy, see where the rocks behind them end and then in the distance begin again? That's the first section of the underwater tunnel. They did this instead of drawbridges because of the many naval ships that pass thru here. While we were out we saw a big frigate and an air boat. Thomas thought this was too cool.

2. "We drove our car on the ferry." From Lewes, Delaware to Cape May we took a ferry. They couldn't believe that we drove the car on it! It took and hour and 20 minutes to cross and they had a blast. They went up on top and nearly blew away. It's pretty cool up here still, so on the ferry we were freezing...as you can tell by their pictures!

3. "Played at two beaches." They played at Virginia Beach this morning and then here at Cape May this evening.

4. "We are at an old hotel." It's funny how the hotels are part of their favorite things each day. They are really getting a kick out of all the different places we stay each night.

5. "Tomorrow we go to New York!!!" They really can't wait till we get to NY tomorrow. Thomas wants to see the Statue of "Liverty" as soon as we get there. We will probably wait until Thursday though. I hope the shock of going from this sleepy little beach town to NYC doesn't throw them for a loop!
