Male Bonding...

Well, the hunter gatherers have returned and we shall have food for the long winter!

Thomas, Scott and Papaw went for their annual trip to the deer lease this weekend. Thomas looks forward to this weekend all year long and had his bags packed a week ago! This time was even better than before because....he shot his first deer!

To say that he's excited is the understatement of the year! He can't wait for us to eat it. Papaw is going to have the antlers mounted for him.

Scott said he had a great time just puttering around all weekend catching frogs, searching for lizards, throwing stuff in the fire and shooting his BB gun. He brought home 4 more frogs to add to our frog habitat!

I know some people will read this and wonder why I let my 8 year old kill bambi. While I personally do not care to sleep with critters, get up at 4:30 in the morning and freeze my behind off in a tree, I realize that some people do. In fact, most people with Latham DNA do. I didn't get that gene. But Thomas did. Also, one reason it doesn't bother me is that even though I wasn't there, I KNOW my dad prepared him for it and taught him that it isn't a sport. I know because of the way he came in the door today telling me that we had lots of meat to eat. I like that he spends that special time with his Papaw and his Dad and with my dad's family. Around men who respect nature and balance and know a great deal about it and are willing to share that knowledge with him. Someday when he's older he will really appreciate his time with them and look back on these times as some of his best. Right now, he just likes the fact that he doesn't have to bathe while he's there and can burp without saying "excuse me!" Seriously...frogs, dirt, fire and BB guns, what 8 year old boy wouldn't love a weekend like that??!!Blessings,

Leslie
