We left our hotel this morning and headed to Graumann's Chinese Theater to see the hand prints of the movie stars. Thomas liked Roy Roger's best because he put his gun in the concrete too!
Of course, we couldn't leave without walking down the block to see Elvis Presley's star!!
Elvis and the Beatles start the Hollywood Walk of Fame on a median in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. Also there was a star dedicated to the LAPD West Hollywood division officers killed in the line of duty. I thought that was really cool...
After our brief visit to Hollywood, we headed for Rodeo Dr. to eat at Nate-n-Al's. This is one of Scott's favorite restaurants from when he lived out here. It's a VERY traditional Jewish deli. Here is Scott enjoying his Matzoh Brie (gentile interpretation: scrambled eggs with soggy crackers eaten with brown sugar on top).
I ordered a cup of Matzoh Ball soup, but didn't get more than just a few bites before Thomas and Grace descended on it like vultures! I guess they do have a little Jewish DNA after all!!
After this we went around the corner to Rodeo Dr. and had frozen yogurt at Pinkberry. The line was out the door and unfortunately (fortunately) we did NOT see Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton. Of course, Lindsey's in rehab and Paris is in jail.
After this we headed for Santa Barbara! We took the PCH, Pacific Coast Highway, and it was really beautiful.
Santa Barbara is gorgeous. Definitely a place to spend a long weekend. Our hotel is so pretty and right across the street from the water and the Santa Barbara pier.
Thomas and Grace went swimming tonight after we got back. The pool area is too cute with it's yellow and white cabanas.
As soon as we unpacked, we walked across the street so the kids could play on the beach for awhile. The water is absolutely frigid! But, they had a great time playing in the sand.

They look like such sweet buddies in this picture, you'd never know that they try to kill each other 20 or 30 times a day!
After they played for a bit we took a walk on the pier. It's so big that they let cars drive out on it and it has several restaurants. The kids did some souvenir shopping and then we had dinner.
After dinner we went and got the car so we could check State St. This is where all the shopping, restaurants, and nightlife is. We just drove around, but it was really neat. We took a scenic drive up into the hills. The houses here are amazing. Built right into the side of the cliffs. Heaven knows what they must cost! I can't help but wondering what the people do who can afford to live here. The further you got up the hill the better the view....
I'm putting this picture in because I am always so astounded at the flowers here in California. They have flowers and trees here in colors that just don't exist in Texas.
Thomas's Top Five for 07-07-07:
4. "Buying the Chicken Chucker." He found this little gun at a souvenir stand that shoots little rubber chickens! I have to admit, it is pretty funny!
5. "Shopping on the pier."

Hi everyone! It looks like y'all are having a ton of fun on your vacation. I love the Shrek and Walk of Fame pictures! And Rodeo Drive...I'm so jealous!
Yum. I'm so envious. Nate & Al's is terrific. The matzoh ball soup and matzoh brie look delicious. We liked Universal better than almost any other theme park. It was fun and very interesting. Do they still have the parting of the red sea from the Ten Commandments? Mandy looks star struck with Dora. Glad you're having so much fun.
Love,
Grandma
