We began our day by trying to master the NYC subway. No small feat I assure you, yet necessary if you want to see as much of the city as you can while you're here for 4 days. Our first stop was Grand Central Station and it is indeed Grand. I so wish we still had the patience and pride in the craftsmanship of our buildings that we did back in the eary 1900's. This picture could not possibly capture how beautiful this building is.

After Grand Central, Jason and Scott spent a few minutes deciding what train we needed to be on and we headed for 5th Avenue for a little shopping.
5th Avenue was crazy busy and packed with people. We did manage to do some shopping though. We also found ourselves right in the middle of an Elf strike. Yes, an elf strike. At first we thought it was all in fun, but as we found ourselves right in the middle of the protest, we realized that they were for real. Crazy..., but serious. They were shouting,"Don't feed corporate America" and were trying to get people not to Christmas shop. Yeah...Friday after Thanksgiving on 5th Avenue in New York City...get a clue people.

After growing tired of picketing elves and the huge crowds, we all decided to head to the hotel for an afternoon nap. It was then that we entered the nastiest subway station ever. It had black mold growing all over the walls...and notices of rat poisonings posted everywhere.

We rested at the hotel for about an hour and then took the subway to Canal street, Chinatown, to shop. MY favorite!! We then walked over to Little Italy for dinner. We had the best dinner at a cozy little Italian place. I love Little Italy, it's one of my favorite places in the city.

After dinner we went to the Apple store on 5th Avenue by Cental Park and played with the new iPhone. I LOVE it!

Scott and I in front of the glass Apple cube!
Harry Winston's diamond snowflake earrings!
Me in Saks 5th Avenue, their decorations were awesome.
Tomorrow we are headed the Greenwich Village and Downtown. We are all exhausted, but saw a LOT of NYC today. Using the subway really helped alot.
I apologize if there a million typos and grammatical errors in this entry, but it is 1:24 a.m. here!!!
Blessings,
Leslie

I 100% agree with you about modern construction. Everything is cheap and throw together like cookie cutter buildings. It's a shame.
The shopping trip looks like so much fun!!
